District 64 honours individual members each year for their service to members, clubs and the District. Any member in good standing, belonging to a club in good standing in District 64, may submit a nomination for any of the District Awards.

Nomination forms for each specific award are available for download/printing under the description for the award. To download the form, click on the link, complete the form and save the completed document. Nomination deadlines:

February 28 annually - nomination deadline for 3 awards which recognize contributions over several years. These awards will be presented at the Spring Convention.

  • Eric Stuhlmueller Memorial Award – District leadership
  • George Craigie Memorial Award – club level contributions
  • Jack Gillespie Builders Award – membership and club building

Spring annually (at least 2 weeks prior to the Spring Convention) – application deadline for the KW Pin – 10 years simultaneous and continuous membership in 2 clubs. This award will be presented at the Spring Convention.

There are two awards that are open to all members of District 64 that were initiated and are administered by individual clubs.

Allan Shaw Memorial Award

This award for mentoring recognizes individuals who have demonstrated a commitment to and an excellence in mentoring fellow Toastmasters. The award committee is comprised of the President of Allan's home club (Skyliners #831) and the 6 Division Directors. It is presented annually at the Spring Convention and is based on the following criteria:

  1. The individual's diligent work to provide and support the orientation of new members through the explanation of meeting roles and other fundamentals of the Toastmasters program.
  2. The individual's assistance and encouragement to new members in the development of their first few manual speeches.
  3. The individual's demonstrated efforts to encourage new members to serve on club committees, seek club officer positions during elections, or participate in other leadership activities within the club.
  4. The individual's support and inspiration of new members to participate in the many opportunities that exist beyond club borders within the Toastmasters organization.
  5. The individual's ongoing commitment to providing the support and encouragement to the activities, pursuits and challenges of his/her fellow Toastmasters that best symbolizes the work of Allan Shaw.

  Les Staats Award for Dedication to Toastmasters

The Les Staats Award for Dedication to Toastmasters is an award instigated in 2009 by the Winnipeg Toastmasters Club in recognition of the excellent example of Toastmasters skills in action. The Les Staats Award will be presented to any member of the Toastmasters Organization who exhibits the following attributes:

  1. Has shown a long-term commitment to Toastmasters by attending meetings regularly and fulfilling various club roles as assigned.
  2. Shows a desire to complete communication manuals, by preparing speeches to move forward with educational goals.
  3. Shows an enthusiasm about speaking, and a commitment to personal growth. Presents at meetings with professionalism and respect.
  4. Is dedicated to the club. Shows commitment by remaining a member.
  5. Offers guidance to new members.
  6. Understands the importance of training events and District events and attends these functions.
  7. Shows guests and newcomers an attitude of hospitality.
  8. Willing to take risks and stretch him/herself to a new level.
  9. Demonstrates the impact of Toastmasters on his/her life, outside of the club.
  10. Embodies the core values of Toastmasters: integrity, dedication to excellence, service to the member and respect for the individual.

Starting July 1, 2017:

1. Speechcraft/ Boot Camp

  1. Register your Speechcraft/ Boot Camp with the Chairperson (Laurette Greenlay).
  2. Show a Plan to the Chairperson; either 4, 6 or 8 weeks.
  3. Receive your Toastmasters Speechcraft Kit.
  4. Sign up two (2) new members from the Speechcraft/Boot Camp Session.
  5. Receive District recognition (prize).

2. Open House

  1. Notify the Club Growth Director with date(s), time, place.
  2. Advertise your Open House.
  3. Sign up two (2) new members from the Open House.
  4. Receive District recognition (prize).

3. Club Coach

  1. Sign up with my Club Coach Chair to become a club coach.
  2. Two (2) years help take the club to Distinguished Status.
  3. Complete the Distinguished Status in one (1) year.
  4. Receive District recognition (prize).

4. Buddy Clubs

  1. Attend at least two (2) other regular club meetings in your Buddy List.
  2. A minimum  of Three (3) Toastmasters must attend the Buddy Club meetings.
  3. Show the Buddy Club chair three Toastmasters attended the meeting and participated.
  4. Receive District recognition (prize).

5. Unlock the Power of Social Media

  1. Create a new club Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn or other popular social media presence.
  2. Monitor the number of Guests who come to your meetings as a result of seeing it on your new social media page.
  3. Gain at least Two (2) new members as a result of your new social media presence.
  4. Receive District acknowledgement and participate in a draw of all clubs entered.

Quick Tip

1. RE-Member! Invite all former members to visit your club one more time this year! Hold an Open House, special awards meeting, special speaker meeting or a "We Miss You!" meeting. Make it a special occasion (project from the CL Manual). Hold more than one special meeting if you have more members wanting to complete a project from the CL Manual.

2. To build your membership host a “Bring a Friend” day to share the benefits of Toastmasters with a co-worker or friend. Toastmasters is one of the most economical and efficient training programs in the world. Members learn at their own pace in a safe and supportive environment. Why not consider sharing the benefits with your friends and co-workers?
