Educational Synopses and Presenter Biographies

Berni Plett - Props, Humour, Action:
This workshop will be of interest to speech writers who consider using props to entertain the audience. The presenter will provide a milieu of techniques using anecdotes with props, while encouraging well timed punch line deliverance with stage actions.

Berni immigrated to Canada in 1983, and with very basic English speaking skills attended the U of W the following year, graduating with a 4 year BA. In 2006 he finally joined a TM club, and has enjoyed participating in speech competitions ever since. He has been fortunate to have participated in the district speech competition finals 6 times. He successfully achieved the ACS and ALB.

Dorian Guerard - Leadership 101:

Whether you are leading a team at work, at Toastmasters or in your family, see how ten simple practices can help you become a leader that others want to follow.

Dorian Guerard DTM is a long-time Toastmaster who has led many successful teams in Toastmasters and other volunteer organizations. Her interactive style will keep you entertained and informed.

Alfred Kerperin - Leadership is Learnable:

Leadership is learnable if given the right tools. In this 45 Minute Presentation you will gain some of the tools to be a good leader. This will be an interactive presentation so come prepared with ideas to participate in this presentation.

Alfred Kerperin is a Distinguished Toastmaster and only a few projects away from a second Distinguished Toastmaster. He loves to speak and always has a speech in his back pocket. His philosophy is: If I expect it from others, I have to be capable to do the job first.

Jackquie Schnider - Plenary Session, Membership Building & New Toastmasters Brand:
Jacquie Schnider, DTM, of Calgary, Albert, Canada, is a public health inspector for Alberta Health Services. She is also a board member for the Environmental Health Foundation of Canada and the Alberta Public Health Association. In addition, she has been a trainer and leader with Girl Guides of Canada for 25 years.

Schnider has been a Toastmaster for 21 years and is a member of the Calgary Morning club in Calgary. She has held a number of distinguished leadership positions within the organization and has attained the Distinguished Toastmaster designation - the highest level of achievement in Toastmasters.

She says her Toastmasters training plays a key role in her job as a public health inspector. "I speak to people every day because of Toastmasters," says Schnider. "I also have been asked to serve on boards of directors because of my leadership experience in Toastmasters."

As a member of the Toastmasters International Board of Directors, Schnider is a "working ambassador" for the organization. She works with her fellow Board members to develop, support and modify the policies and procedures that guide the organization in fulfilling its mission.
